PUBLIC WORKSHOP

Activity-Based Learning:
Skills to help manage symptoms of Parkinson's using Alexander technique (AT)

An interactive afternoon for People Living With Parkinson's, their Families and Partners, Allied Health Professionals, Research Scientists and Medical Care Providers interested in symptom management for PD

Saturday, September 24

1pm-4:45pm

Location: DoubleTree by Hilton Portland

This is an integrative workshop designed for engaging PLWP as well as their broader care team of family and other partners, allied health professionals, research scientists and medical care providers in a new understanding of the relevance of AT-based interventions for PLWP.

You are invited to an interactive afternoon where as a Person Living with Parkinson's (PLWP) you can begin to learn how to apply Alexander-based strategies to help improve your balance, alignment and movement, and prevent falls and "freezing." This workshop will introduce you to some basic AT principles that will help you improve your general functioning, and that can be applied during normal daily activities, as well as during specific exercise programs.

The main objective of this workshop is to introduce the potential for Alexander technique (AT) to become an important part of the team approach for managing symptoms for People Living With Parkinson's.

Our goal is to demonstrate how adaptive Alexander-based programs can show PLWP how to actively choose and use functional patterns that promote optimal postural tone, empowering them in managing their physical symptoms, increasing their independence and improving their quality of life.

Participants may wish to bring a mat along for the guided "Active Rest" section
