The evidence-based course is focused on the needs of the caregiver, independent of their care receiver and is free for family care partners of people living with Alzheimer's disease or other dementias.
Enjoy a supportive group setting to learn skills based on Alexander technique (AT) to manage the many daily physical and emotional challenges that dementia caregiving brings into your life.
Enjoy the convenience of having the course brought to you via Zoom. And no tech worries! You will have plenty of advance help in how to connect with and set up for the course. Please don't let "technology" be a barrier for you!
Learn strategies for caring for yourself all though your day. Build practical resilience for the physical and emotional challenges of long term caregiving. Learn ways to take rest moment-by-moment all day long without having to set time aside to practice. Also, learn ways to effectively cue your care receiver to use the Alexander technique principles in their daily life, too.
This course is also part of a research study through the University of Idaho. Participants will be asked to complete an online survey and a brief verbal activity via Zoom before and after the course, and also complete a brief written evaluation form.
WHAT IS ALEXANDER TECHNIQUE?
Alexander technique (AT) is a well-established approach for skillfully managing stressful circumstances. AT training has also been found to be effective in reducing physical symptoms such as chronic neck and back pain — common complaints for care partners — and it has been demonstrated that AT training has long-term retention of benefits.

Partnering with Poise is a program of The Poise Project® and was developed with support from Parkinson's Foundation community grants and research through the University of Idaho.
The Poise Project® is a nonprofit with the mission of helping the public maintain poise and personal growth throughout all stages and challenges of life using the principles of Alexander technique (AT). We design and deliver Alexander-based programs that give people greater confidence to manage their life challenges and increase their independence and quality of life.
Our programs for care partners help them gain skills to manage the physical and emotional demands of long term caregiving, as well as to cue their loved ones for using the AT principles in their daily life, while also fostering a supportive community with one another.
